No.1 Grand Canal Square, Dublin
Architect: DMOD

No. 1 Grand Canal Square is a speculative office development in Dublin’s south inner city. BDA carried out the design of bespoke curtain walling system.

The design incorporated triple laminated, low iron, dichroic coated structurally performing glass fins which discretely supports the very large format (3m x 3.75m) IGUs.

The use of a dichroic coating (which changes color depending on the angle of light) in a structural glass fin supported in this manner is believed to be a first in construction terms.

Additionally anti-reflective coatings were used on the glazing adjacent to the structural columns in a bid to visually express the structure.

All bespoke designs were subjected to a rigorous prototype test regime involving structural, weather, type, impact and accelerated age testing.
